A Simple Test to Discover One's True Political Allegiance

I’ve recently discovered a very simple test that discloses one’s true political allegiance, and it appears more evident during this time of year than at any other. Just ask a very simple question and depending on the answer you receive you can almost always tell if that person you are talking to is either a democrat or republican. Just ask, “Do you call it a Christmas tree or a Holiday tree?” and depending on the response you will generally be able to tell the difference. On television this morning I kept hearing the dilemma between the governor of Rhode Island and some of his continuants over the ‘proper’ use of a ‘name’ associated with the season. It appears the governor is obsessed with the idea of changing the name used for hundreds of years and one within a more traditional nature just to satisfy his own political agenda. So, ‘what does that have to do with it,’ you might ask? The governor happens to be an independent, but is leaning to the left with his support of Obama and his agenda at the moment, just like the senator from Connecticut, Joe Lieberman. He ran as an independent but still votes mostly with the Democrats, his original political party before they voted him out because of his friendship with John McCain; case closed. An independent just can’t make up his/her mind at the moment and will lean either way depending on what suits them at the moment.

But I don’t want this to turn into some kind of political symposium on the different political parties’ right here. As stated in the onset, this test is in no way a scientific study or an exhaustive study on political affiliation, but rather a very simple observance on my part that happens to be somewhat informative within a majority of the cases I find. This is still America I believe and each of us is still entitled to have an opinion even if it differs with the established political clientele at the moment. I don’t think Washington has ‘changed’ that yet. I just ask that you do a survey on your own, don’t just take my word for it and as you do just remember that ‘birds of a feather, flock together’ so just don’t ask those from your particular political party, or way of thinking to get an honest assessment.

This world we live in today is definitely changing at a most rapid pace. This is not to say that all change is good. Some of the basics need to be adhered to even if they are not just the way we might think they should be. America grew out of defiance to an existent ideology or way of life, a suppressing of the elite upon the working class or peasants as they were known, a socialistic control of the masses by a few in power dictating the ‘whats’, the ‘hows’, the ‘whens’ and mostly the ‘ifs’. It became so unbearable that the masses chose to leave and establish a life where they could directly benefit from their own individual endeavors.

No, America has not yet fully become that great nation that many of the original founding fathers saw it to be some day when they first decided to leave those ideas that drove them here in the beginning. But, I seriously doubt that a return to having a dictating ideology that takes away our basic right to call a Christmas tree what it will always be in the hearts of the masses is necessarily a move in the right direction.
