A Simple Test to Discover One's True Political Allegiance
66Christmas tree vs Holiday tree
I’ve recently discovered a very simple test that discloses one’s true political allegiance, and it appears more evident during this time of year than at any other. Just ask a very simple question and depending on the answer you receive you can almost always tell if that person you are talking to is either a democrat or republican. Just ask, “Do you call it a Christmas tree or a Holiday tree?” and depending on the response you will generally be able to tell the difference. On television this morning I kept hearing the dilemma between the governor of Rhode Island and some of his continuants over the ‘proper’ use of a ‘name’ associated with the season. It appears the governor is obsessed with the idea of changing the name used for hundreds of years and one within a more traditional nature just to satisfy his own political agenda. So, ‘what does that have to do with it,’ you might ask? The governor happens to be an independent, but is leaning to the left with his support of Obama and his agenda at the moment, just like the senator from Connecticut, Joe Lieberman. He ran as an independent but still votes mostly with the Democrats, his original political party before they voted him out because of his friendship with John McCain; case closed. An independent just can’t make up his/her mind at the moment and will lean either way depending on what suits them at the moment.
Must we change this...
But I don’t want this to turn into some kind of political symposium on the different political parties’ right here. As stated in the onset, this test is in no way a scientific study or an exhaustive study on political affiliation, but rather a very simple observance on my part that happens to be somewhat informative within a majority of the cases I find. This is still America I believe and each of us is still entitled to have an opinion even if it differs with the established political clientele at the moment. I don’t think Washington has ‘changed’ that yet. I just ask that you do a survey on your own, don’t just take my word for it and as you do just remember that ‘birds of a feather, flock together’ so just don’t ask those from your particular political party, or way of thinking to get an honest assessment.
What do you call it?

This world we live in today is definitely changing at a most rapid pace. This is not to say that all change is good. Some of the basics need to be adhered to even if they are not just the way we might think they should be. America grew out of defiance to an existent ideology or way of life, a suppressing of the elite upon the working class or peasants as they were known, a socialistic control of the masses by a few in power dictating the ‘whats’, the ‘hows’, the ‘whens’ and mostly the ‘ifs’. It became so unbearable that the masses chose to leave and establish a life where they could directly benefit from their own individual endeavors.
God Bless America, again...
No, America has not yet fully become that great nation that many of the original founding fathers saw it to be some day when they first decided to leave those ideas that drove them here in the beginning. But, I seriously doubt that a return to having a dictating ideology that takes away our basic right to call a Christmas tree what it will always be in the hearts of the masses is necessarily a move in the right direction.

A Christmas tree is a Christmas tree when it is in your home. It is also a Christmas tree when it is on public grounds, but to have separation of church and state, the politicians will think that calling it a holiday tree as a lame way to incorporate the other religions.
greattopic. got me thinking/ who created man and all things on earth, and named them?and there significance guess man , has chosento make things up as they go along! instead forgot all about God and our Lord Jesus Christ to remind man, of the error and folishness of there ways since the begining. how sad pray for them!
nice hub sam. hope and pray u r doing well!
You would think that there are more important issues for politicians to be concerned with other than worrying about the Christmas tree.
There are two national holidays that don't set well with the secular left...Thanksgiving, and Christmas. While Thanksgiving can be dismissed as sort of a 'general gratitude' holiday (no God here!), Christmas is a thorn in their side, because it is, by its very name, obviously a Christian celebration, and flies in the face of secularists.
Therefore, there is an ongoing war on Christmas, and so we have leftist idiots absurdly trying to erase any reference to Christmas during....well, Christmas!
Thus, we have leftist, PC, idiots calling a Christmas tree, a 'holiday' tree.
Christ is nowhere else to be found on Christmas, so I guess they think they have to take His name out of the tree thing too. So in my opinion, Christmas isn't even a holiday. It's the birthday celebration of the King. So where does "holiday" fit in? It is a CHRISTmas tree.
I have never called it anything but a Christmas tree! The tree is all about Christmas and celebrated the birth of Christ...duh! Other religions can get there own tree.
I am with you brother. I appreciate this fine Hub. Christmas is a federal holiday. Atheists just need to get over it and shut up. :)
Well done, my friend.
I have never heard anyone around here calling it a holiday tree no matter what their political interest, religion or no religion is. Christmas holiday is about Christ. Doesn't matter if you are you religious or atheists. This holiday is what it is. I agree with you that perhaps atheist should have their own day.
Hi samsons1,
You said it all very, very well. MOST republicans, are not ashamed to say the word CHRIST. They are PROUD of God and His Holy Bible. They understand the significance of God and Christ has played in the developement of this Nation.
Most Democrats believe that anyone who is proud of God or proud of having faith in Christ is somehow "shoving" it down other peoples throats.
Just a reminder I said MOST and not ALL.
Very good hub, I vote up.
I hope your Christmas was Merry,
Chris
As an Atheist, this might surprise you but it IS a Christmas tree. The tree is a symbol of eternal life (Evergreen) and represents a Christians belief in eternal life through Christ. Christmas is a shortened form of Christ's Mass. Whatever my own belief is, respect for the traditions of others is paramount.
Wow, you are hard to find without that 1!
I feel caught up in defense sometimes myself. I thought I was democrat but I have not liked all democrats and I certainly don't the one we have now although I helped put him there. Anyone who is a Christian could surely not re-elect that anti-Christ. I always read it as America being all about Christianity and yes it was all about freedom of religion but those religions had Christ! He was the Son of God in them all.
Maybe there are no good men left to elect, maybe it is the beginning of the end. Why couldn't two good men be put up for election? Do the democrats and republicans want a third party to win? They really all are crooks, we all know that. Right now and for always Christmas is Christ to me and it is a Christmas tree. Past that I judge each man individually. America does not mean what it did because congress let it become anti-Christ. Both parties. They voted God out years ago.

If you are a Christian and want to celebrate Christmas with a Christmas tree, I think that is your right. It's a Christian holiday and you can call it, and the tree, what you want. Why should anyone challenge that?
I'm neither a Republican nor a Democrat. I suppose it is possible, because we are a very diverse society that includes people with a range of beliefs/religions, that many people feel the observation of religious traditions should be more private and less public. However, I would hope that doesn't mean that we tell people how they must observe their faith, celebrate their holidays, and so forth as long as it doesn't infringe on others.
I don't know, but I assume a Christmas tree itself is secular BUT it is in celebration of a Christian holiday, so to me, only Christians should determine what to call it. On the other hand, if non-Christians (agnostics, atheists, Hindus, Muslims, etc.) want to have a tree for their own purposes, I guess they can call it whatever they want, including Holiday tree.
I hope I don't offend you, but to be American doesn't require you to be a Christian, which means not everyone will want to celebrate "Christmas". But, in support of you... it does seem silly, for a political figure to refer to a Christian symbol in such a secular way. As you say, it is what it is, no one has to apologize for that.
